DELETE  A  FILE

When a file is selected, by clicking on it with the left mouse button, you then have a choice of two menu methods in which to delete that file. With menu method one simply place the mouse pointer over the selected file and then click the right mouse button. An Options menu will then appear.

Fig 1.1  Starting from the Open menu-item, Go down the menu-items until you reach DELETE and then left click.

Now go up (or down) the menu-items with the mouse pointer until you reach the DELETE menu-item. As you do this each menu-item will become highlighted, temporarily, as you go past it. When you have reached DELETE and have it highlighted click the left mouse button to activate DELETE. A Requester will then appear asking if you want to delete the file.

Fig 1.2  Do you really want to delete this file?

If you really want to delete the file click on the YES button, but if you have changed your mind click on the NO button. When you delete a file it normally goes into the Recycle Bin (Dustbin), depending on your computer setup. If this is the case you can recover that deleted file, and any previously deleted folders and files, as long as the Recycle Bin has not been emptied. Read the Recover Folders/Files section for more information.

Technically. You do not have to select a file first, with this menu method, as clicking the right mouse button (menu button) whilst hovering over a file acts as a Double Click. So in this case clicking the right mouse button (also known as a Right-Click) selects the file and then shows the Options menu.

Menu method two uses the current file's window menu to activate DELETE. Once the file is selected click on the File menu, which is located in the top-left corner of the current file's window. In this example, in the top-left corner of the My Wedding sub-folder window.

After clicking on the File menu its menu-items will appear (Fig 1.4 below). Go up (or down) the menu-items with the mouse pointer until you reach the DELETE menu-item. As you do this each menu-item will become highlighted, temporarily, as you go past it. When you have reached DELETE and have it highlighted simply click the left mouse button to activate DELETE. The Delete Requester will then appear asking you if you want to delete the file (see Fig 1.2 above).

As you can see, the two menu methods are alike. And this is the case for most menus. So always check to see if there is a Right-Click (Options) menu available for the task you are doing.

Another way to delete a file, once it is selected, is to press the DEL (Delete) keyboard key. This is the quickest and easiest method.
