| INSTALL MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 |
This example of software installation shows you how to install Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007, but the example
should be the same for the other Microsoft Office 2007 packages as Microsoft tend to be very uniform with their installations.
Begin by inserting the Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 Installation CD into your CD Drive (or DVD Drive) and then wait
for the AutoPlay window to appear (Fig 1.1), if the Windows Vista AutoPlay feature is switched on that is. If it is switched
on you will given the option of opening the folder of the Installation (Office 2007) CD or running the Office 2007 Setup.exe
file. You should click on the RUN SETUP.EXE option. If the AutoPlay feature is switched off you will have to open the folder
of the Installation (Office 2007) CD and then double click on the Setup (or Setup.exe) file.
Regardless of the way the Setup file is executed (launched) it will start the Installation Wizard (Fig 1.4), after you have clicked CONTINUE on the UAC (User Account Control) security requester that appears.
User Account Control (UAC) is a feature of Windows Vista that helps to prevent unauthorized changes to the computer, such
as deleting a system file or installing software. When attempting to install Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 the UAC
security requester above automatically blocks you off, because it wants to know if you are the one attempting to install
Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 and not a piece of malicious software for example. In the above case simply click on
the CONTINUE button to continue, or on the CANCEL button to cancel the installation process.
At any time throughout the installation process you can click on a CANCEL button, if one is available, to Cancel the
installation process. However. In some cases, generally speaking, even if you click on a CANCEL button the installation
might have gone too far for it to be stopped, cancelled and/or reversed. So think very carefully before deciding to install
any thing onto your Computer.
The Installation Wizard has the task of copying the necessary files (scripts, instructions, actual files and so on), amongst
other things, in order to make the installation process easier for Windows Vista and you. That is what is happening in
Fig 1.4 above.
In Fig 1.5 above the Installation Wizard is asking you to enter the 25-Character (Letters and Numbers) Product Key
(Serial Number) into the edit box - The product key can be found inside the Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007
plastic-box packaging. Fig 1.5 shows what happens when you enter an incorrect product key and Fig 1.6 below shows what
happens when you enter the correct product key. If you do enter an incorrect product key, due to a mis-type, either type
the correct product key into the edit box or click on the red Close/Exit button to quit the installation process.
After entering the correct product key, click on the CONTINUE button (Fig 1.6 above) to take you to the License Agreement window below, where you must agree to the Terms & Conditions before continuing.
Read the License Agreement carefully. Although these tend to contain useless information, they usually explain Copyright
issues or Usage issues that clarify who can use the software and who cannot. So if, for example, you are told that a
certain piece of software is Free and/or Free To Use you may want to clarify this by reading the agreement. Some installation
wizards do not allow you to continue, by fading out the CONTINUE button, until you have read (scrolled down) the
license agreement. When you are ready and if you agree, put a tick next to I ACCEPT THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT and then
click on the CONTINUE button to continue.
The next window that appears (below) asks you how you want to install Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007.
Click on the INSTALL NOW button if you want the Installation Wizard to make a Complete Installation of Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 for you, which is virtually automatic. Otherwise, click on CUSTOMIZE so that you can choose which programs and elements of Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 you wish to install (for Advanced Users only). The Complete Installation means the major Office 2007 programs will be installed and where necessary the need to install extra programs (i.e add-ons and/or converters) might be done at a later time, after Office 2007 has been installed. Therefore always keep your Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 CD to hand, just in case it is needed for those extra installations.
Once you have chosen your type of installation the installation of Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 begins. The progress-guage window above might take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete depending on your computer setup. When it does complete you will see the following window.
Although the above window states that Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 has been successfully installed, which is true, it does not mean that is the end of the installation. Meaning. Even though the installation wizard has finished its tasks (the above window was the last window of the installation wizard) you still have to activate Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007.
| ACTIVATE MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 |
With the installation of Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 finished the next thing to do is Activate it, using the Activation Wizard. If you do not activate it you will only be able to use it for a further 24 times (read the statement above the NEXT button, below). Begin by opening any of the major Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 programs such as WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT or ONENOTE. This will automatically launch the Activation Wizard.
The first window of the Activation Wizard, above, asks you how you would like to activate Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007. Over The Internet or By Telephone. Your decision relies on your License type, but normally you click on the recommended Over The Internet option. When you have clicked on the radio (circle) button of your choice click on the NEXT button to connect to Microsoft's Activation Server (computer).
Once you are connected to the Microsoft Activation Server (computer) your Product Key and other information are registered
(recorded) so that Microsoft knows which computer your unique copy of Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 was installed
on. Unique because no two Product Keys are the same. If you ever have to re-install Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007,
for whatever reason(s), you can do so.....as long as you re-install on exactly the same computer with the exact same product
key. YOU CANNOT RE-INSTALL THE SAME Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 ON ANOTHER COMPUTER, UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE IN
THE LICENSE AGREEMENT. More Information.
With the activation process finished you are then presented with the following window that asks you about Privacy. Read
through each option carefully and then click on the NEXT button to continue. In this example I have un-ticked all options,
but you may want to keep the top one ticked. It allows you to check online for help when using the Help feature.
The next window asks you if you want to sign-up for Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 updates, which I strongly recommend you do. Basically, your Windows Updates and your Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 updates will be listed together when manually checking for updates in general and will be on the Automatic Updates list as well. If you want to sign-up click on the SIGN UP button to continue, otherwise select I DO NOT WANT TO USE MICROSOFT UPDATE and proceed.
After clicking on the SIGN UP button Windows Vista is set-up to include Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 updates whenever it does Automatic Updates for example. Once this is done the installation and activation of Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 is completely finished/set-up. You can then start using Microsoft Office Home And Student 2007 as normal.
