The third TAB (window) on the Internet Options window is the Privacy TAB. All you need to make sure of on this window is that there is a tick next to the TURN ON POP-UP BLOCKER setting and that the privacy setting is set to its default level of Medium.

The tick next to TURN ON POP-UP BLOCKER, together with the privacy (default) level of Medium, ensures that most Pop-Up windows do not appear (pop-up suddenly).

Any pop-up window you give permission to appear will be stored inside the Allowed Sites list (Fig 3.1). In this example I am allowing the Microsoft Office website to use pop-up windows - I allowed it when I went to download some Templates and then the Information Bar warned me of the (harmless) pop-ups. The Allowed List will normally be empty or only have a few trusted pop-up websites listed in it, but this depends on the type of website you visit. There is usually no need to add a website address by hand because Internet Explorer normally fills in a website's address for you when you click on its Information Bar to allow the website's pop-ups, but if you do add a website's address the ADD button becomes available. Clicking on a website address already in the Allowed List makes the REMOVE button available. The ADD button becomes available when you begin typing a website's address into the ADDRESS OF WEBSITE TO ALLOW Edit Box.

As well as adding or removing websites (website addresses) from the Allowed List you can also choose the Filter Level for pop-up windows (Fig 3.2 above). The default filter level will be CUSTOM for example if you have used the Information Bar with pop-ups before (If you have allowed the Microsoft Office website to use pop-up windows for example). The other filter levels are self-explanatory.

If you want to see how a website is managed (i.e blocked or allowed) because it uses a Cookie file you can click on the SITES button (Fig 3.3 below), located on the Privacy TAB, to bring up the Per Site Privacy Actions window (Fig 3.4 below). This window usually contains a list of BLOCKed Cookie File websites, as blocked by programs such as SpyBot and other protection software, but you can type in your own website addresses as well and then BLOCK or ALLOW them as you prefer. Remember. These settings are for websites that use Cookie files and therfore are probably classed as Spyware websites by protection software.

The REMOVE and REMOVE ALL buttons are purely for removing websites from the list. If you want to add a website to the list you must first type its full address (i.e www.???.com) into the ADDRESS OF WEBSITE Edit Box and then click on BLOCK or ALLOW. And to block or allow an existing website address in the list either re-type its address into the edit box or click on its name before BLOCKing it or ALLOWing it.
